چکیده

A marked increase in the activity of alkaline phosphatase of intestinal lymph following feeding has previously been found in the rat (1). Because this increase was much greater than that found in the plasma of the intact rat after feeding and because the activity of this enzyme decreased to very low levels in the plasma of rats from which lymph was being drained, it appeared that the small intestine is normally an important source of the alkaline phosphatase of the plasma in this animal. It has been suggested that the intestine might also be an important source for the elevated levels found in the plasma of animals with obstructive jaundice (2). Dalgaard (3) has recently shown, however, that this is unlikely, since elevated plasma levels could be produced by ligation of the common bile duct in dogs which had previously undergone enterostomy. We have reinvestigated the effect of fat-containing and fat-free meals on the alkaline phosphatase activity of intestinal lymph of the rat under somewhat more favorable conditions for both enzyme measurement and lymph flow. The increase appears to be considerably larger after fat-containing meals than after fat-free meals in the normal rat. If, however, bile is diverted from the intestine either by a biliary fistula or by ligation of the bile duct, an increased amount of alkaline phosphatase is not released into the intestinal lymph after feeding.

On the source of the alkaline phosphatase in rat serum.

Alkaline phasphatase occurs in several tissues and consequently the source of the enzyme in serum has stimulated considerable investigation and speculation. Several workers (l-3) have studied the effects of diet upon intestinal and serum alkaline phosphatase activity, and, in general, similar dietary regimens have similar effects on the two enzymes. The serum enzyme shows a significant correlat...

Amylase and esterase in rat intestinal lymph.

Alkaline phosphatase, which occurs in very high concentration in the mtestinal mucosa (1) and is excreted (2) in the intestine in large quantities during digestion, has been found also in increased concentration in the plasma (3) and especially in the intestinal lymph (4) of the rat after it has been fed a meal containing fat. This increase in the alkaline phosphatase activity of intestinal lym...

The effect of food ingestion on intestinal and serum alkaline phosphatase in rats.

A study has been made of the effect of the ingestion of various foods on the concentration of alkaline phosphatase in the intestinal mucosa and the blood serum in rats. We have confirmed the findings of other investigators that fasting will reduce the serum alkaline phosphatase in rats (l-5) and that the feeding of fat or of protein but not of carbohydrate will increase it (2, 5). We have also ...

Immobilization of the Alkaline Phosphatase on Collagen Surface via Cross-Linking Method

Background: Collagen, the most abundant protein in the human body, and as an extracellular matrix protein, has an important role in the fiber formation. This feature of the collagen renders  establishment of the structural skeleton in tissues. Regarding specific features associated with the collagen, such as, formation of the porous structure, permeability and hydrophilicity, it can also be use...

P-178: Separation and Identification of Alkaline Phosphatase Isozymes during Pregnancy

Background: Alkaline phosphatase (ALP), (EC 3.1.3.1) is a hydrolase enzyme responsible for removing phosphate groups from various molecules in the body. In humans, ALPis present in all tissues such as liver, bile duct, kidney, bone, and the placenta which detection of its activity is so useful in molecular biology. Pregnancy is associated with normal physiological changes that assist fetal surv...
